This simulation was a good reminder to actively try to advocate for patients. Mrs. Steele in the simulation did not voice any concerns while taking medication, but we can clearly see the risk of chocking. These are the type of cases where the nurse can step in to suggest taking pills one at a time or crushed. Patient may need an SLP consult and Diet texture changes. Small observation such as this can make huge changes for patients recovery. After the simulation, I thought to myself, " How else can advocate for the paediatric population at work?".
