SMART GOALS

ISBAR - Blood Transfusion Virtual Simulation

Week 2 - Critical Thinking and Reflection
The two key ideas I noticed during the virtual simulation is interpreting information and problem solving. For example, the nurse noticed the patients temperature has spiked and developed rashes on the body. This is indicates a systemic reaction likely from the running blood transfusion. She stopped the infusion and called the physician for further orders, however, the nurse recommended what was best to give to the patient right now which was IV Diphenhydramine. This demonstrated confident problem solving skills.
Creating SMART goals in virtual clinical setting was difficult. This is because clinical practicum are traditionally done hands on. My previous SMART goals had physical skills incorporated in them such as " By week 5, I will be able to insert an IV successfully with supervision". Although many students were discouraged by the layout of this course, we still had a lot to learn in theory. Some students in class mentioned that the simulation were too straight forward and that it does not reflect real life. I agree with these comments but I also understand adapdatablity. We have the best resources at hand to further our knoweldge gaps and perhaps implement in our RPN role.
